Half & Half

Welp folks I’m back at it. Nearly a year has passed but I’m here. I made it. In my last post I talked about the passing of my mother, and to be quite honest it was a very difficult thing for me to discuss. Still is. If you’ve experience grief you know exactly what I mean. Some days are better than others but you gotta keep moving because if you don’t it’s easy to fall into a depression. This is where I was for several months. I’m better now though. Prayer, meditation, and the constant voice of my mommy in my head telling me to keep my chin up and keep moving are all factors that helped me cope and get to a better place.

Today, I am happy to say that I am finally back doing what I love. Sewing and creating in general brings me peace, it brings me a joy like nothing else does. Always has. I don’t do it for the applause. I do it because it makes me happy and it calms my spirit. I know this sounds crazy but I once told someone when trying to explain my love for creating that I feel closest to God when I’m creating. Nothing else makes me feel that way and that’s how I know that it is a God given gift. And I am so grateful for it. ❤️

Now about this jacket! I have had this pattern in my possession for a very long time but I was too intimidated to make the darn thing. First of all it is an “advanced” Vogue pattern, which if you use patterns you know that you can’t come half stepping with Vogue. Their advanced patterns are often very detailed and have lots of pieces and this one was no different. The pattern I used is V1687. I initially planned to make the pants as well but decided I didn’t like the style. The pattern calls for 3 different fabric types which were all purchased from Fabric.com. I used gabardine for both the main and contrast, and for the lining I used a charmeuse satin which I absolutely love. How cute are those polka dots??!!

Definitely wanted to go with something busy and colorful on the inside of the jacket to have some fun. It’s like an unexpected twist. However my favorite part is that one side of the jacket is longer than the other. Love the asymmetry!

All in all, this jacket was a pretty fun project. Wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It did take me several weeks to complete it only because it was my first project after my hiatus. Took me a while to get back in the swing of things. I’m proud of myself for completing it. And I’m already working on my next project. Stay tuned! 😊
